Instructor Workshops in November!

We're excited to welcome Jo Ann Graser to Defining You Pilates & Fitness on November 23 & 24 for two outstanding dynamic workshops! The sessions will empower Pilates and fitness instructors to further their practice through hands-on learning and sharing of expertise. 

Jo Ann, NCPT, is the president and founder of Tensile Strength Studio and Barrington Yoga Loft located in Barrington, IL. Her credentials include National Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT), Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Golf Biomechanic, Arcus Educator as well as certifications in indoor cycling, MOTR and Lebert Systems.

We Got Your Back

Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. 

Register here for this 4 hour workshop which explores spinal pathologies including Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis Arthritis, herniated discs, sciatica, etc. and how they can be managed (and mitigated) using Pilates and Pilates based movements. 

  • Learn how to approach the private client as well as manage a class setting in which participants suffer from “back problems.” 
  • You will learn through lecture, discussion and practical applications of the exercises. Numerous options for modifications will be presented and contraindications clearly detailed as we explore the Pilates apparatus and mat repertoire.
  • Additionally, you will be given the tools to empower your clients to manage their own situations. This is especially important in a group class setting.
  • We will cover working with people of most ages and abilities, spanning from the novice to the expert to the elder client. You will come away with specific methods for progressions and long term programming

Advanced Programming: Safe and Effective Progressions

Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m

There is so much more to an advanced Pilates workout than just performing exercises from the advanced repertoire. Register here for this 4 hour workshop and learn to create challenging progressions on all the main apparatus and the mat utilizing the beginning, intermediate and advanced repertoire.

We all have clients wanting more challenge, but many are not ready to tackle an entire workout made up from the advanced exercises. Learn how to safely push, challenge and engage your clients without losing the integrity and intention of the Pilates method. The fitness industry in general is trend driven. The key to creating enticing and unique programming lies in the ability to know when and how to progress a client.

Bicycle for Butterflies in October

Throughout October, Defining You is bicycling for butterflies as part of a fabulous fitness-themed cause campaign called Miles for Monarchs.  Everyone is welcome to join our spin-a-thon as we pedal those studio spin bikes to get fit while benefiting monarch conservation one pedal stroke at a time, mile after mile, spin class after spin class. Truly a win-win!

You can help by taking a spin class (or as many as you can squeeze in!) in October and clocking your miles to reach our collective DYF goal of 2,000 miles. That’s the approx distance a Minnesota Monarch will fly during its amazing journey to overwinter in Mexico. The studio will donate .05-cents for each mile logged on the spin bikes, which will go toward our $1000 fundraising goal. 

Other ways to help include...

  • Bring a friend and double your effort! 
  • If you stop in for open gym or want to put a few miles on the bike on your own time, jot your miles on our weekly tracker, or a post-it note, located on the spin room door.
  • Consider making a financial donation of any amount to the DYF Ready, Set, Fly fundraiser page. Our team goal is $1000. All proceeds will go directly to create acres of native pollinator habitat.

Each week we’ll give away a super cute Monarch-themed t-shirt, courtesy of our friends at Monarch Joint Venture. One entry per class, so the more you spin the better your odds.

All miles will help us achieve our fitness goals while safeguarding the Monarchs' safe flight. So sign up for spin class/es in October, work hard and pedal for pollinators, while getting a great cardio workout in for you!

Mens Pilates Series

Pilates is a solid supplement to any cardio or strength training routine - and men all over the country are using it to target smaller muscle groups and improve core strength. 

Men of all fitness levels are invited to join one of our upcoming 6-week Pilates Series to tackle this whole body workout. 

You'll boost athletic performance, strengthen your core, and improve mobility and flexibilty!


Class Times: Wednesdays 6:45 pm -7:45 pm AND Saturdays 11 am - 12 pm

Class Format: All Pilates Apparatus Equipment and Mat Pilates

Cost: $300

Private Group Fitness & Pilates Classes

Looking for a fun way to gather friends and/or family? We offer private Group Fitness and Pilates (Mat or Apparatus) classes for any type of celebration!

Simply select a class from our existing offerings or we can work with you to create a fun hybrid.

For a nominal fee, we can even provide light snacks and beverages for after the class.


Group Fitness Class or Mat Pilates Class: Cost is $18 per person with a minimum of 5 people.

Pilates Apparatus Class: Cost is $25 per person with a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 4 people.

Private classes must be booked a minimum of five days before the event. To book your private event, please contact our Customer Service team at
